National Health Funding Body

2021 Excellence in Enterprise-Wide Award Winners

Silver Award

The National Health Funding Body (NHFB) is an independent entity of 29 staff who support the Administrator of the National Health Funding Pool. They oversee the administration of Commonwealth, state and territory public hospital funding and payments under the National Health Reform Agreement.

A review of existing policies undertaken in 2019 highlighted that the NHFB needed a more dynamic focus across their governance arrangements in order to strengthen the capability across people, systems and processes to ensure they were achieving best practice and prepared for the future.

When the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in 2020 the NHFB continued their focus to maximise benefit from their digital platforms, focus on core business and invest in their people. They demonstrated resilience and agility through having a fit-for-purpose approach to managing risk. Their approach saw them successfully administer over $56 billion in public hospital funding in 2020-21, despite the challenges of operating in a COVID-19 environment.
