About COMCAR
COMCAR is part of the Department of Finance and is the Australian Government’s car-with-driver service.
You will provide secure, confidential and professional transport services to:
- the Governor-General
- current and former Prime Ministers
- Senators and Members of Parliament
- members of the Federal Judiciary
- Visiting Heads of State or Government and other foreign dignitaries
- major events across Australia
COMCAR operates nationwide and provides services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Your responsibilities
As a COMCAR driver, you will:
- provide safe, courteous and efficient transport services
- maintain a professional appearance at all times
- assist passengers by opening vehicle doors and carrying luggage
- keep vehicles clean and well presented
- follow confidentiality, security and business requirements
- complete required documentation accurately
- carry out vehicle cleaning, administrative and depot duties as required

- Fairbairn, ACT
- Alexandria, NSW
- Keilor Park, VIC
- Brisbane Airport Precinct, QLD
- Keswick, SA
- Ascot, WA
COMCAR also has a presence in Darwin, Hobart, and Newcastle.
Eligibility
To apply, you must:
- be an Australian citizen at time of application
- hold a valid Australian unrestricted driver’s licence
- provide a copy of your driving record at your own expense
- be able to obtain the required security clearance
- pass a pre-employment medical and functional assessment
- successfully complete COMCAR driver training
No prior experience or specific qualifications are required. You must demonstrate a sound knowledge of road rules and have a consistent record of safe and compliant driving.
You should be polite, professional and able to communicate clearly. You must follow strict security and confidentiality protocols.
Security clearance
If you are successful, you must complete a security clearance through the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.
You will need to submit an online application and provide required personal documents within the specified timeframe.
You cannot start work until your security clearance is granted.
Pre-employment medical assessment
You must complete a medical and functional assessment to demonstrate your fitness to drive by:
- having the physical capability to drive for extended periods (vision, hearing, strength and mobility)
- having the medical capacity to drive safely, including managing any health conditions
- being alert and able to concentrate, make sound judgements, and respond quickly to changing road conditions
- meeting all medical and functional standards required for professional drivers
COMCAR covers the cost of the assessment. Any additional specialist or referral costs must be covered by the candidate.
You will not be paid for the time spent attending the assessment.
Driver Training
You must complete a two-day driver training course as part of the onboarding process.
The course includes road rules, road awareness, general driving skills and defensive driving techniques. You must achieve a competent rating to progress through the recruitment process.
COMCAR covers the cost of this training. You will not be paid for the time spent attending training.
