Public Consultation Submissions

The Department of Finance undertook a consultation process inviting interested parties to provide their comments and suggestions to inform the development of a definition of an Australian business.

The following written submissions were provided as part of the consultation process, and have received appropriate consent from the submitters to be published.

The Department thanks all those who provided submissions to inform the development of a definition for an Australian business, for their time and valuable feedback.

Consultation Process

Public consultation on defining an Australian business for Commonwealth Procurement opened on 16 September 2024 and closed on 25 October 2024. A paper was developed to support the consultation process, providing an overview of the Commonwealth procurement framework and the potential use of an Australian business definition within this context.

The paper provided information on a range of business-related definitions that are currently being used by government entities, and outlined various factors, such as business location, taxation and ownership, that could be considered in the development of a definition for use within the procurement framework.

The consultation paper is available in the download section.
