Indigenous Development Programs

Finance participates in 2 whole-of-government Indigenous development programs.

Indigenous Apprenticeships Program

The Indigenous Apprenticeships Program (IAP) is a whole-of-government pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to start their career in the Australian Public Service (APS). Since 2015, the IAP has given over 1,800 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people opportunities to join the APS. These are people with diverse backgrounds, including people leaving school, finishing study or looking for a new career.

On-the-job training is provided for the 12-month program.

Participants are recruited at the APS2 and APS3 levels. In addition to the on-the-job training provided by the business area, APS2 apprentices complete a Certificate IV in Government, and APS3 apprentices complete a Diploma in Government.

Participants must complete the relevant course to graduate from the IAP.

Applications for the IAP open in January and close in February each year, with the program commencing at the end of July.

Indigenous Graduate Pathway

The Indigenous Graduate Pathway (IGP) is a recruitment stream within the Australian Government Graduate Program. Finance seeks to recruit graduates from this stream each year. This pathway is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have completed an undergraduate degree or higher. All degree types are encouraged to apply.

Our IGP Graduates are part of Finance’s Graduate Program.
