
Finance proudly shares that Tracie-Ann Maher, Director of the Risk and Insurance Policy Section, has been awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) for her outstanding contributions to risk management across the APS.
Over the past 15 years, Tracie-Ann has significantly enhanced public sector risk management, driving innovation, initiative, curiosity, and collaboration. Her notable accomplishments include:
- Development of the Commonwealth Risk Management Policy in 2014 and its review and update in 2023. This policy supports accountable authorities in achieving best practice risk management under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act).
- Establishment of the Commonwealth Risk Management Benchmarking Program, which enables entities to determine their progress in implementing the policy and has demonstrated growth in risk management maturity across the general government sector.
- Creation of the Commonwealth Risk Committee in 2022, addressing issues of shared, common, cumulative, and emerging risks across the Commonwealth.
- Implementation of an APS-wide risk management education program and community of practice, supporting the early implementation of the policy and providing practical advice to enable foundational change.
- Introduction of the Commonwealth Awards for Excellence in Risk Management, showcasing best practices and supporting good governance and capability across the APS.
Tracie-Ann's leadership and commitment to raising the profile of risk management have extended to fostering greater links between public, private, and academic sector risk managers. She has been an influential member of the Risk Management Institute of Australasia and volunteers with Standards Australia, assisting with international risk management standards development.
