Capability & Culture
Capability and culture refer to efforts across the APS to increase in-house data skills and develop a culture of using data to drive policy objectives and evaluation.
Key resources for Capability & Culture:
- APS Data Professional Stream (Australian Public Service Commission, Australian Bureau of Statistics)
- The APS Data Profession aims to lift the data capability of the APS workforce through defining data capabilities, increasing diversity and mobility of people in data roles, and creating career pathways and development opportunities. We aim to ensure the APS workforce can attract, develop, and retain the data capabilities required to harness the unprecedented growth in the availability and value of data.
- APS Digital Workforce Plan (Digital Transformation Agency)
- The APS Digital Workforce Plan represents an enterprise-wide view on how to equip the APS workforce to tackle immediate and emerging skills required for digital technologies. It will identify a suite of actions under key principles to guide Government agencies to empower and skill their workforce with the capabilities needed to thrive in the digital space.
- Data Graduate Program (Australian Bureau of Statistics)
- Led by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the Australian Government Graduate Program Data Stream recruits positions for over 300 data graduate roles on behalf of over 40 Australian Government and Commonwealth agencies. Positions are available for data generalists, data scientists and mathematician/statisticians.
- Next Gen AI and Emerging Technologies Graduates Program (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation)
- The Next Generation Graduates Program targets students in the artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies fields. The program encourages them to tackle real world challenges and build foundational skills in these disciplines. With opportunities for in-depth training and collaboration with industry, students can become career-ready specialists in their field.
