Effective planning and reporting is critical to transparent and accountable government.
All Commonwealth entities publish corporate planning and reporting documents under the Commonwealth resource management framework, with specific requirements for each document set out in the performance framework.
The performance framework gives effect to legal obligations under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) and Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Rule 2014 (PGPA Rule), and is designed to:
- provide meaningful information to the Parliament and the public about what government does and what results are achieved
- support a high standard of planning, measuring and reporting on the performance of government activities
- use a mix of qualitative and quantitative performance measures to assess performance
- discuss the operating environment, organisational capability and risk.
