This program consists of two stages that aim to develop the technical and financial skills and capabilities of participants. Each stage comprises of three full business days of face-to-face participation. During the program, participants will have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios through research projects and open discussions.
Financial Analysis I (FA I)
FA I provides an understanding of the fundamentals of financial literacy. It covers beginner to intermediate skills and concepts of financial analysis. Participants will develop an understanding of:
- the components and intuition behind each of the three financial statements
- how industry structure influences revenue and expenses of a Government Business Enterprise (GBE)
- how to turn financial statements into a ‘meaningful story’ by using ratios
- how to evaluate projects based on discounted cash flow techniques
- the steps involved in a Cost-Benefit Analysis.
Financial Analysis II (FA II)
Successful completion of FA I is a pre-requisite to FA II, as it develops on the technical financial skills covered in FA I. FA II aims to impart advanced skills in analysis and financial modelling and covers complex investment concepts. Participants will develop an understanding of:
- the working capital cycle and how cash moves through elements of working capital
- the various forms of debt financing and the operation of credit ratings
- the principles involved in identifying the cash flows relevant for a Net Present Value analysis
- the relevant risks for a shareholder in a GBE.
