During the special commemorative ASEAN-Australia Summit, held in Melbourne from 4-6 March 2024, the Commonwealth Government’s car-with-driver service (COMCAR) played an important role in providing safe and secure transportation services for the visiting leaders and their accompanying delegations.
Hosted by the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, Prime Minister of Australia, the summit celebrated 50 years of partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). A fleet of 103 vehicles and 25 coaches transported delegates to various event venues, including the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), the National Gallery of Victoria for the Leaders’ Dinner and Government House Victoria for the Leaders’ Retreat. A team of 163 dedicated staff members, including drivers and administrative personnel, managed the on-ground operations and ensured seamless transportation services throughout the event.
Planning for the ASEAN Summit began in July 2023 in cooperation with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s ASEAN Taskforce. This ensured effective coordination of operations and logistical support. COMCAR also worked closely with the Australian Federal Police and the Victorian Police on motorcade configuration and provided specific training for drivers.
In addition to the summit, COMCAR facilitated 2 Guest of Government visits for the Prime Minister of Laos and the Prime Minister of Malaysia, as well as a Cabinet meeting in Melbourne while continuing to deliver regular services across Australia.
The event showcased COMCAR’s commitment to providing efficient, professional and client focused services for the Government.
