Defining an Australian Business for Commonwealth Procurement - Public Consultation Closed

The Australian Government is seeking to develop a definition of an Australian business for use within the context of Commonwealth procurement framework.

The Department of Finance has developed a consultation paper providing an overview of the Commonwealth procurement framework and the potential use of an Australian business definition within this context.

The paper provides information on a range of business-related definitions that are currently being used by government entities, and outlines various factors, such as business location, taxation and ownership, that could be considered in the development of a definition for use within the procurement framework.

Public consultation on Defining an Australian Business for Commonwealth Procurement opened on 16 September 2024 and closed on 25 October 2024. The consultation paper is available in the download section. The Department thanks those who provided submissions to inform the development of a definition for an Australian business, and for their time and valuable feedback.

The Department will consider the comments and suggestions raised through the consultation process to inform the development of an Australian Business definition for Commonwealth Procurement. A definition is expected to be settled by the end of 2024.

The Department may publish submissions from this consultation process on the Finance website. Submissions from the consultation process are not automatically published.

Enquiries can be submitted to ProcurementConsultation@finance.gov.au.
