Intergovernmental Community of Practice

The Intergovernmental Community of Practice brings together representatives from all Australian states and territories and the New Zealand Government to discuss commercial policy, best-practice governance and experiences in overseeing Government Business Enterprises (GBE) and State Owned Enterprises (SOE). The Community of Practice focuses on existing and emerging commercial issues faced collectively by Governments in their oversight roles, with a strong emphasis on promoting best practice policy and governance, and public sector stewardship.

The Community of Practice provides jurisdictions with an opportunity to discuss the oversight of the shareholder function while balancing the independence of GBEs and SOEs with achieving the government’s strategic policy objectives.

In recent meetings, panel discussion and presentations have focused on Board appointment processes, induction processes, debt management, procurement oversight and the establishment of a Government Business.
