The Australian Government is committed to acting on climate change in its own operations.
The Department of Finance is responsible for leading the APS Net Zero by 2030 commitment, reinstating greenhouse gas emissions reporting for Australian Government operations, and introducing climate disclosure requirements for all Commonwealth entities and companies. The Department of Finance is also responsible for implementing low emissions vehicle target for the Commonwealth fleet, and the Commonwealth Procurement Rules that were updated in July 2022 to include climate change impacts when considering value for money.
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is responsible for enabling climate risk management by Commonwealth entities and companies through its Climate Risk and Opportunity Management Program, and supporting more sustainable government procurement through the Commonwealth Sustainable Procurement and Advocacy Resource Centre.
