The Guidelines provide a framework for the conduct of all publicly funded advertising and information campaigns.

All Australian Government departments and agencies subject to the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997 are required to comply with the Guidelines and to place their campaign advertising through the Central Advertising System. The Department of Finance and Deregulation is responsible for supporting the administration of these guidelines.
