Finance Twitter account and governance
The Department of Finance Twitter account @AusGovFinance is used for distributing information, alerts, initiatives and event updates.
If you follow @AusGovFinance you can expect tweets covering topics including but not limited to:
- updates to content on the Finance website
- posts about initiatives, publications, speeches, events and public comment consultation periods all in relation to the work of the department.
The @AusGovFinance Twitter account is only one of a number of information channels used by the department to release news and make announcements.
Election periods and Caretaker mode
The use of departmental communication channels, including Twitter, is governed by particular conventions in the lead up to and during an election. Further guidance on the Caretaker conventions can be found on the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet website [ PDF].
Finance does not automatically follow organisations or individuals who follow it.
Finance may follow relevant organisations including government agencies and other parties where there is a clear link in communicating and receiving information.
Finance will generally not follow individuals unless they are known in a professional capacity and satisfy the business rule above.
Being followed by Finance does not imply endorsement of any kind.
As part of account maintenance and monitoring, Finance regularly reviews the accounts it is following. This may result in Finance unfollowing accounts.
@Replies and Direct Messages
Finance welcomes feedback and ideas from its followers, and ensures that any emerging themes or helpful suggestions are forwarded to the relevant people in the department.
Finance does not engage on issues of party politics.
Finance will endeavour to respond in a timely manner. Please note other channels for contacting Finance are detailed in the Contact Us section of the Finance website.
Finance does not respond to media enquiries received on Twitter. All media enquiries should be directed to the media enquiries email address: email@example.com
Finance may occasionally be asked to re-tweet content from other Twitter users. These requests will be considered on a case by case basis but generally Finance aims to honour such requests from:
- other government departments, and
- relevant stakeholders.
Finance actively seeks opportunities to re-tweet content that contributes to the dissemination and exchange of useful information about issues relevant to Finance and related topics.
Finance primarily updates and monitors its Twitter account during standard business hours, 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service due to Twitter downtime.
