The Australian Government wants to employ you as an ICT professional!
The APS ICT Cadetship Program is employing current university students to work part-time in an Australian Government agency while completing a university undergraduate degree.
Do I need a background in ICT?
You need to have completed one year of an undergraduate degree or equivalent (fulltime). If you are not studying ICT, you will need to enrol in an ICT major. This will allow you to apply your studies to your job, and what you learn on the job to your studies.
What’s in it for me?
You have a great opportunity for employment in the APS, getting relevant work experience as you complete your undergraduate studies.
Cadets earn an attractive and competitive salary package, including leave and superannuation. You will be eligible for pay increases as you successfully complete each year on the Program.
You will also receive a generous study allowance to support your university costs.
How long will it take?
You will complete your Cadetship when you successfully graduate from your current course of study. You will work a minimum of two days a week in the workplace, with the remainder of the working week dedicated to your study. The duration of this Program is a maximum of three years.
What will I have to do?
You will work as part of a team in an ICT area of your employing agency undertaking a broad range of ICT related tasks.
You will also have an opportunity to participate in valuable learning and development experiences through your agency.
Where will I work?
You will be selected by one of the participating Australian Government agencies across the country.
Each agency focuses on a specific area, such as communication, defence, finance, environment, education, workplace relations, health, community services, science and so on.
Will I keep my job once I’ve finished the Program?
Yes! On successful completion of the Cadetship Program and university graduation, you will simply transition to a full-time permanent employee in your Australian Government agency. You may even have immediate opportunities for a promotion.
How do I stay on track?
Your workplace supervisor will guide your day-to-day work, answer questions and provide advice. You will also be provided with additional support through a dedicated Cadet Manager, who will monitor the progress of all the Cadets in your cohort.
